Women’s rights in Armenia

The concept of domestic violence, which is officially recognised in international law, in particular in the Council of Europe (CoE) Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention 2011), is still fairly unheard of in Armenia. It is a common misconception that domestic violence concerns only physical violence, whereas psychological, economic and even sexual abuse are not yet recognised. There is currently no legal instrument in Armenia which defines the concept of domestic violence.
