Human rights in armed conflict and the jurisdiction of the ECHR


The recent armed conflict between Russia and Georgia has brought to prominence the applicability of human rights law to situations of armed conflict and the jurisdiction of the ECtHR over events occurring during hostilities. The Court has been faced with numerous applications arising from conflict situations: from south-east Turkey and Chechnya in particular.
