This has been another extremely active and productive year for the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre.
As a result of the outbreak of armed conflict between Georgia and Russia in August 2008, we spent a considerable amount of time towards the end of the year preparing a series of cases on behalf of victims of the conflict – for people whose relatives had been killed in the bombings, or whose houses had been destroyed or damaged and for others who had been detained by the armed forces or armed militia.
We have placed an increasing emphasis on striving for the effective implementation of judgments of the European Court, working at both national and international levels. We continue to engage in broader advocacy, both relating to the ongoing reforms of the Court, and also with other Council of Europe mechanisms. Through our regular EHRAC Bulletin, our websites, articles and comment in the media we have sought to keep a wider international audience informed about our various litigation, advocacy and training initiatives.
