APT guide to ‘National Preventive Mechanisms’ against torture
‘National Preventive Mechanisms’ were introduced in December 2002, with the adoption of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention Against Torture, as a means of providing external oversight of places of custody. The Association for the Prevention of Torture has now published a guide providing assistance to those involved in the creation of NPMs, including governments and civil society organisations.
