Annual Report 2020
2020 was a year like no other as our lives were transformed in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic. We were constantly amazed at how our partners, our team, and our supporters were able to adapt to the painfully difficult circumstances that faced all of us over the past year. Despite the many hardships, there were victories-years in the making-that re-affirmed the reason why we do what we do.
In April, we lost a dear friend and supporter, Lord Frank Judd, who served as Council of Europe Rapporteur on Chechnya from 1999-2004 and was an outspoken advocate on human rights issues in Russia throughout his career. We would like to dedicate this Annual Report to Frank Judd, who without fail, would respond to each of our bulletins and newsletters to warmly congratulate us on our work.
He cared deeply for social justice and was moved by the courage of those he met in Chechnya and the injustices they faced. On news of his passing, and testament to his tireless work and character, human rights defenders, and many others, were quick to share their memories of Lord Judd and his indelible impression on them.
We will be forever grateful for his dedication to, and advocacy on, the gravest human rights issues, even during the darkest of times.
