The project aims to take forward the systemic changes which were identified in the\u00a0<a title=\"HUDOC\" href=\"http:\/\/hudoc.echr.coe.int\/sites\/eng\/pages\/search.aspx?i=001-115871\">European Court\u2019s judgment<\/a>\u00a0in the case of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ehrac.wpengine.com\/news\/oleksandr-volkov-reinstated-as-supreme-court-judge-in-ukraine\/\">Volkov v Ukraine<\/a>. EHRAC represented Mr. Volkov in his case before the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).<\/p>\n<p><em>The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in its judgments in the cases of Olexandr Volkov v Ukraine and Salov v Ukraine found a violation of Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights and noted that there were deficiencies in the domestic legislation on Ukraine concerning clear criteria and procedures for the promotion, disciplinary liability and career development of judges.<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/news\/council-of-europe-launches-project-to-strengthen-judicial-accountability-in-ukraine\/#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2422\" src=\"http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_00811.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_00811.jpg 320w, http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_00811-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_00811-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_00811-12x12.jpg 12w, http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_00811-100x100.jpg 100w, http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_00811-140x140.jpg 140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/>The 12-month project, funded by the Human Rights Trust Fund, has two main objectives:<\/p>\n<div class=\"primary\">\n<ul>\n<li>To assist in drafting legislative amendments to allow Ukraine to implement ECtHR judgments in cases such as those of Mr. Volkov and Mr. Salov;<\/li>\n<li>To support Ukraine in improving the rules and procedures of the judicial disciplinary bodies, thus ensuring fair and efficient reviews of complaints against judgments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>The judgment of the ECtHR in the case of Olexandr Volkov v. Ukraine constitutes a reference point for the reform of the disciplinary system of the Ukrainian judiciary and is the starting point for the work of the Project.<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/ehrac.org.uk\/news\/council-of-europe-launches-project-to-strengthen-judicial-accountability-in-ukraine\/#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The project\u2019s
