Developments in Russia point to serious threat to advocacy for LGBTI rights

9168574450_6d16964aec_oTwo developments raise concerns that advocacy for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people in Russia may soon be suppressed completely: the adoption by the Russian Duma in June 2013 of a law prohibiting so-called ‘propaganda of non-traditional relations among minors’ (the ‘Federal Propaganda Law’), and the use of the Foreign Agent Law to target LGBTI organisations.
