Antayev v Russia
Case No. 37966/07
Judgment Date: 3 July 2014
In March 2006, two of the applicants (both of Chechen origin) were involved in a fight with another individual, in the settlement of Prosekovo. Following this, the police began an investigation of their own accord against the applicants. The family homes of the applicants were searched by men in law enforcement uniform and/or wearing masks, who beat several family members and used racially-motivated insults. Three of the Antayev applicants had to be taken to hospital. One Vashayev family member was taken away, beaten, and had a rope pulled around his neck until he lost consciousness. A criminal investigation into the incidents was suspended several times (for failure to identify the perpetrators). The applicants were unsuccessful in their appeals to the domestic courts concerning the ineffectiveness of the investigation.
