The European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC), based at Middlesex University, has joined forces with the Allard K. Lowenstein International Human Rights Clinic at Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut, USA.<\/p>\n

Five students will be researching events in eastern Ukraine under the supervision of\u00a0Professor James Silk<\/a>,\u00a0Clinical Professor of Law and Supervising Attorney at Yale Law School, to assist EHRAC with its pending casework at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).<\/p>\n

The cases, which have been brought against both Russia and Ukraine in partnership with the\u00a0Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union<\/a>, concern individuals who were detained and ill-treated in eastern Ukraine for several months last year.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the involvement of Yale\u2019s Human Rights Clinic, EHRAC Director Professor Philip Leach said: \u2018We are grateful for their contribution to EHRAC\u2019s work and hope that this will be a long-standing relationship between the Yale Clinic and our university.\u2019<\/p>\n

\nI\u2019ve been eager to have our students work with EHRAC since I met Philip Leach\u00a0 a year ago and was deeply impressed by the work that he and his colleagues are doing. \u00a0This is a wonderful opportunity for the students in the Human Rights Clinic at Yale.\u00a0 By collaborating with EHRAC on its important efforts to secure justice at the European Court of Human Rights for people who have suffered serious abuses, they are having an extraordinary learning experience.<\/em><\/p>\n
