Caroline Njoya is just one of Middlesex University\u00a0School of Law\u2019s master\u2019s students to have gained valuable career experience at the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\nMy legal skills have improved and I\u2019ve grown in confidence working in a professional environment with practising\u00a0lawyers<\/em>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Caroline Njoya began working at the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC) for the internship module of her\u00a0MA in Global Governance a<\/a>nd Public Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having completed both an undergraduate degree in common law and a Master\u2019s qualification in comparative law from the Ren\u00e9 Descartes University Paris V, Caroline\u2019s time at Middlesex and EHRAC in particular has allowed her to explore her interests in human rights.<\/p>\n

EHRAC, an independent legal centre within the\u00a0School of Law<\/a>, is the perfect place to gain experience in this field as we\u00a0work closely with\u00a0partner lawyers<\/a>\u00a0in the former Soviet Union to\u00a0bring cases of human rights abuse before the European Court of Human Rights<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHuman rights are a big concern for me,\u201d says Caroline, who has been conducting research into domestic violence for lawyers to refer to as part of her role at EHRAC. She has also assisted in organising events, including a recent webinar on women\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

All this is helping Caroline prepare for the tests she will take to become a judge on her return to Paris, but she is not the only beneficiary. Of course, the internship scheme is an indispensable\u00a0resource for EHRAC as well.<\/p>\n

\nLike many NGOs, EHRAC relies on interns for support in every aspect of our work, whether researching information for cases before the European Court, translating documents, writing articles for our bulletin, uploading resources to the EHRAC website, or organising events. We always ask new interns which aspects interest them the most and try to cater to their general ambitions throughout their internship.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Middlesex School of Law students looking to gain work experience with us\u00a0should read\u00a0about our work<\/a>\u00a0for a greater understanding of our aims.\u00a0Interns\u00a0<\/a>should also have an interest in human rights and\/or a legal background and it is incredibly useful, though not essential, if you are able to speak Russian, Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijani or Ukrainian. There may also be opportunities to conduct specific research at EHRAC if it\u2019s relevant to a particular human rights issue\u00a0in the region<\/a>.
